With almost 2.7 million likes on Facebook, the internet pop-rock sensation has come a long way since his humble beginnings as an acoustic act catching the attention of MySpace users on the once popular social networking site. Never Shout Never has just dropped “Simplistic Trance-Like Getaway”, the first single off the forthcoming record, Time Travel. The album will be available on September 20th and it is the first time in which singer Christofer Drew Ingle records with a full band. Although the track has a much more mature sound than his previous work, fans of NSN will be happy to know he’s still included his signature sticky sweet lyrics and heart-strumming hooks.

If you crossed Jack’s Mannequin’s sound with the lyrics of The Maine, the result might be something like Never Shout Never’s latest CD, Time Travel, set to release Sept. 20.

The first release to include a full band consisting of lead singer Christofer Drew’s friends from his hometown of Joplin, Missouri, the CD is loaded with a more electric, slow sound than the band’s recent releases—and we’re definitely not complaining.

“Simplistic Trance-Like Getaway” is the most pop-like song on the album and, arguably, one of its best tracks. Your heart will melt when you hear Christofer Drew croon, “Honeydew, I wouldn’t trade you for the world, you are my dream that has come true.”

“Until I Die Alone” is another one of our faves. Its melancholy sound stands out against your typical love song.

People who like alternative music will love Time Travel. And fans of slower pop will definitely enjoy. It’s the perfect remedy for a breakup or just a rainy day when you’re stuck inside!

Be sure to check out Time Travel when it releases Sept. 20. Then come back and let us know your favorite track.

In AP 217, Never Shout Never ringleader Christofer drew promised his third major-label disc would be a departure-and boy, was he ever right. It’s as if the singer is finally sick of playing pop, so he’s instead taken aim at dense, retro-tinged rock more apt for his current fans’ parents. These songs are drawn-out, jammy and at times psychedelic. The album-opening title track is a virtual acid trip set to music, awash in electronic samples and twinkling keyboard runs before devolving into a stomping outro backed by arena-rock rifling, chanted vocals and pounding drums. “Awful” calls to mind the sinewy guitar work of “This Shit Getz Old”, while the delightfully fun stacked harmonies that fill “Lost At Sea” are ripped right from the Queen playbook of grandeur. Time Travel isn’t a total departure from Drew’s past (most notably, “Simplistic Trance-Like Getaway”), but juxtaposed against NSN’s older material, the progression is that much more remarkable. Ultimately, you have to admire Drew’s refusal to remain stagnant as he continues to challenge himself with new songs.
